Build a website you own.

Foundation is an open-source website template designed to be understandable, editable and deployable. You can run it yourself, adapt it to your needs and deploy it on the infrastructure you choose.

Two ways to create a page

Markdown

For straightforward content pages, Markdown is usually the simplest option. The content remains easy-to-read text, with simple notation for headings, lists and links. The About page on this site is created this way.

JSON

For more structured pages, JSON lets you define the sections that make up the page — such as a hero, columns, cards, tables or question-and-answer sections. This page is created this way.

You own your website

Using Provelopment services is optional. Your website, its content and its code remain under your control.

About this website

  • A live Foundation reference site

This website is a working Foundation site built from the publicly available code. It demonstrates both supported page-authoring methods together with Foundation's multi-site, multilingual, multi-location and layout capabilities — here with the Global site you are reading and a demonstration Germany site.

Built for different needs

The Layout control in the header switches between the Sidebar and Menu-bar presentations without changing the page, its address or its content.

The reference deployment now shows all four visitor controls together. Site chooses which website you are reading — Global here, or the demonstration country site Germany. Language chooses how that site is read: English and Deutsch on Global. Location chooses a physical or service context inside a site, and a site only offers the locations it actually has — Global has none of its own, while the Germany site demonstrates Berlin and Frankfurt. Each control appears only when the corresponding configuration exists.

These demonstration values are an example rather than a fixed part of the template: an adopter replaces them with their own sites, languages and locations as their website develops.

The complete site is public

This page is part of the working website, not a mock-up. Its content comes from a single file — home.json — in the Provelopment Foundation repository. The About page, styling and site configuration are there as well. Change the files, commit the changes and push them to your repository, and the site can rebuild from the updated source. The code remains yours to use, adapt and deploy elsewhere.
